The Birth of Hope United Church

The Birth of Hope United Church

Six years ago a network of churches came together with a vision to start a new church. As they began to pray and seek out the next steps, Kansas City, Kansas was on the hearts of everyone on the team. With no building, no founding pastor the team began to pray and seek God’s will. Five years into that journey a building was found and a pastor and his family stepped out in faith to begin Hope United Church. Stepping out in faith, the leaders of Hope United Church began dreaming with God’s help the mission, vision, and values of the church. God was leading us towards:

 • A multi-cultural church
 • A church that serves others over ourselves
 • A church that plants other churches
 • A church united in community for all people that journey together in discipleship.

We believe in gathering as a united community called church. All of us living out the same HOPE. Our hope in our Savior Jesus Christ to save our fallen world.

Hey there.

Hey there.

Hi! We are Yort & Cait Clark. We love God, believe in the value of church, and we love people.

In 2009 we met at MidAmerica Nazarene University where we began to dream of a life together. God was calling Yort into ministry, but he went his own way and graduated with an accounting degree.

We married in 2013 and began getting involved with a church plant. Cait was a part of the welcome team and Yort did the setup and tear down each week. In that same year Yort began seminary classes to pursue God’s calling in his life. Together, we led a small group for two years where we saw the group go from 6-8 people to 15-16 people. One of the greatest God moments was building up leaders and passing the group off to new leadership. Within 2 years the group was no longer a small group, but a group of 30 that met consistently.

In 2016, God began to shift our focus. God was calling Cait to graduate school in that year. We made the tough decision to leave our family and comfort zone of Kansas City and move to Mobile, Alabama. We were skeptical and full of doubt and fear. God knew what he was doing.

The 3 years in Alabama were some of the greatest growth as individuals and as a couple we had experienced. Yort finished his degree in Ministerial Leadership from Wesley Seminary. We found a great church that poured into us and loved us fully for the three years we lived there. Yort participated in a small group of men working on their calling and got experience delivering sermons.

At the start of 2019 we were called back to Kansas City for both of our jobs. Cait got a job at a local hospital and Yort’s job as a financial advisor transferred with him from Alabama to Kansas City. In the fall of 2019 we found out that we were pregnant with our son Levi. At the same time, Yort had been approached about a job promotion and a new opportunity in ministry to plant a church. It was an unplanned fork in the road. Do you choose comfort and money in a field you have been in for years? Or do you choose the uncomfortable, unknown field of planting a church? The turning point after a couple of weeks of conversation and prayer occurred when we went to the property where the church would be located. We sat in the parking lot and prayed and dreamed of what could be. The Holy Spirit flooded our spirit with peace and confidence about the decision we were supposed to make. He called Yort into ministry all the way back in 2009 and now it was being fulfilled in 2019. Hope United Church was born.

To share the hope of Jesus by serving each other and our city.
